Permanently suspended from Reddit for sticking up for another person's (ridiculous) ban.
I was kicked off Reddit for trying to help someone else. I was permanently suspended from the entire site — because I tried to get someone else support. And I was banned for harassment — after being harassed by a moderator.
Two years ago in a twist of irony I came across a post called

When r/techsupport banned me for “recommending” a backup product to OP. How else do you answer a question like “how do I backup my laptop?” without suggesting a piece of software that I use to do the job?”
Apparently explaining to OP the difference between their built-in Windows 10 backup, and the one most commonly used system rescue disks out there, is so heinous that not only did they delete OP’s post but they banned me too.
Seriously look at my post history. I help people on r/techsupport ALL. THE. TIME. it’s almost the only thing I do on Reddit. I’m an IT professional and this is how I pass the time when it’s quiet at the office. I have written hundredths of pages of write-ups and explanation over there. I’ve gotten awards from their users. And they just knee-jerk banned me.
Oh and the best part, it was a 2-day ban, but has a two week wait to appeal the ban. Makes sense right?
So (here the person incorrectly tagged someone before editing post) if you see this fuck you guys, I’m not helping you anymore. Guess I’ll go to SlackOverflow instead.
Everything they say is correct. the ban to the users account on that sub-Reddit is nuts.
So I sent a message to the mods.

As you can see the only thing I sent the mods was a post to the link.
35 mins later, I got a message from r/r tech support moderators
You say “you should back up your data and do your research on viable product so you know what you are doing. You broke our rules and you got banned. Simple.
Then they link to https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/wiki/appeal/
A few moments later my ban was changed to a lifetime ban on the Subreddit of tech support.
Then I got a new message
The ban also expires in 2 days from when you were banned.. but because you are a dick the ban is now permanent.
then I started getting account reset attempts- using the email tied to my account. I use 2factor hardware on.. everything.., so it didn’t do anything- but it seemed like someone was trying to break into my email.
Was it circumstantial? The same mod? I don’t know.
About half an hour later, I received a shock -my ENTIRE account was banned.
I was permanently suspended from Reddit for sticking up for another person's ban.
Very oddly, my message is no longer in my inbox at all. It doesn’t show as sent. I think it may have been deleted by the same Reddit mod — who clearly knew an admin.
Suspensions can only be applied to accounts by the Reddit admins
this means that the person was so butt-hurt that they messaged a buddy — to ban someone for life — for asking about a ban — which they never should have applied in the first place.
And the nuttiest part?
Banned for harassment
I never did request a review of MY account. I filled out one for the perosn who had been unfairly banned.

Seriously!! I can’t believe they banned you just for sticking up for me. They also changed my ban from a 2 day ban to a permanent ban.
Somebody’s got a stick up their butt and is embarrassed that their death grip that their tiny little hands have on the tiny little bit of power they have has been put on display for the world to see.
